In these chronically online times, a red carpet is not the only destination for celebs to make a style statement. In fact, one could argue that awards ceremonies have become increasingly monotoned, while other realms of sartorial possibility are utilised for play. Apparently, one such realm is the dog park.
The celebrity dog is certainly having a moment. Not since Paris Hilton made a leading lady out of her chihuahua, Tinkerbell, have we seen so many dogs on the veritable A-list. This year, dogs have become a hot companion on press tours, red carpets and late night interview couches.
Leading the charge is perhaps Demi Moore, whose adorably lopsided micro chihuahua, Pilaf, came with her to Cannes. Pilaf, whose full name is Pilaf The Little Mouse, also accompanied Moore to the couch of The Graham Norton Show where she explained her publicist was fending calls for Pilaf’s solo magazine covers. Meanwhile Demi—eternally stylish as she is—had the audacity to go to the dog park wearing this.
Dripping in the season’s hottest trends (bermuda shorts? gladiator sandals?), The Substance star could have walked straight from the dog park to the Dior front row.
Meanwhile, Anora star Mikey Madison was snapped walking her dog, Jam, in and out of Jimmy Kimmel Live! wearing a Loewe shirt dress and heels. She and Jam then took another turn around the carpark in full glam, with Madison repping a velvet Mugler dress, Tiffany & Co. jewels and gold stilettos. If the star hadn’t minted herself as a fashion icon yet, these ‘casual’ dog walking looks are set to raise the bar.
She’s not the only celebrity making headlines for her dog walking style. Emily Ratajkowski is frequently photographed walking her dog, Colombo, around the streets of her native New York City. On these adventures, EmRata rarely wears the same look twice. Fortunately for Australians who want to emulate the model’s dog walking style, she has a penchant for our designers, like With Jean and Bec + Bridge. In fact, EmRata recently wore a Bec + Bridge mini to walk her dog, before heading straight out to a Lower East Side soiree in the same $248 dress.
Mikey and Demi aren’t the only celebs this year bringing their dogs along for interviews. In March, Millie Bobby Brown took her poodle Winnie to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Meanwhile, Glen Powell, who quickly had the internet fawning over his furry friend, Brisket, walked the Twisters red carpet while cradling his four-legged cutie. Finally, just this last week, Zendaya did some of her cover interviews with her dog shared with Tom Holland, Noon. This was not long after the celebrity couple were snapped looking effortlessly cool at the dog park, wearing (probably designer) sweaters and slacks.
While style is a key part of ‘persona’, deployed liberally by publicists to elevate a star’s public appeal, perhaps the celebrity dog is the new frontier in this practice.
