The Weird And Wonderful World Of Celebrity Facials

BANNER IMG (2)

From rubbing diamonds on their faces to injecting blood and, most recently, salmon sperm, celebrities seem to have a penchant for the bizarre when it comes to their beauty routines. In a recent revelation on her Instagram, Kim Kardashian unveiled her latest beauty treatment: the salmon sperm facial. This isn’t as fishy as it sounds; the treatment, known as the Rejuran SkinBooster, uses polynucleotide (PN) extracted from salmon, which is a refined ingredient rather than actual sperm (we were kind of relieved to find this out, hope you feel the same). This K-Beauty treatment promises to intensely hydrate the skin, stimulate collagen production, and leave you with a dewy glow. It’s no surprise that Kim, always at the forefront of beauty innovation, is diving into such unique treatments. But that got us thinking, we have celebrities to thank for a lot of weird revelations. Let’s dive into some of the strangest facials our favourite stars have introduced us to.

Human Placenta Facial – Jennifer Lopez

J.Lo is known for her ageless beauty, and one of her secrets is the human placenta facial. This involves using products infused with human placenta, which are claimed to be rich in proteins and nutrients that rejuvenate the skin and promote cell growth. It’s a bit controversial, but who are we to judge?

Jennifer Aniston and the Vampire Facial

The “Friends” star swears by the Vampire Facial, a procedure that involves drawing the patient’s blood, separating the platelets, and injecting it back into the face. This gory-sounding treatment is said to rejuvenate the skin, improve texture, and stimulate collagen production. But yeah, it is your own blood going back into your face through micro wounds.

Sandra Bullock’s Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) Facial

Often referred to as the “Penis Facial,” this treatment uses foreskin-derived stem cells to regenerate and repair the skin. Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett are reportedly fans of this facial, which claims to improve skin texture and tone by harnessing the power of growth factors. Yes, weird and weirder. The things you would do for beauty.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Bee Venom Facial

Leave it to Gwyn to push the boundaries of beauty treatments. The bee venom facial involves applying a mask that contains venom, which is believed to stimulate collagen and elastin production, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It’s essentially a milder, natural alternative to Botox. But at this point, wouldn’t you rather opt for the non-natural alternative?

Snail Slime Facial – Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes has hopped on the snail slime bandwagon, a trend that originated in Korea. The slime, packed with nutrients, hyaluronic acid, and glycoproteins, is said to help with everything from acne to ageing. It’s slimy, but if it’s good enough for Katie, it might be worth a try. We can tell you for a fact that our Beauty Editor uses snail mucin serums like they’re going out of fashion, so what’s another slimy derivative in the larger scheme of things, right…RIGHT?

Bird Poop Facial – Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham, the epitome of posh, swears by the Geisha Facial, which involves nightingale droppings. The treatment, inspired by traditional Japanese beauty practices, is believed to brighten and soften the skin. While it sounds gross, the enzymes in the bird poop are said to work wonders on the complexion.

Demi Moore’s Leech Therapy

Taking a walk on the wild side, Demi Moore once revealed her affinity for leech therapy, where medical leeches are used to detoxify the blood. This ancient practice is said to rejuvenate the skin and improve circulation, although it’s not for the faint-hearted. THIS is where we draw the line. We cannot imagine having a leech anywhere near our body, let alone our face, ON PURPOSE. That would be a no from us.

The real question at the end of all of this is, where do you draw the line? How much is too much for beauty? Does a limit exist?
