I would never have thought that in the midst of all the critical moments and tensity of the much-awaited Olympics games, my eyes would be wandering to the players’ nails of all places, but I’m so glad they did- because that was the visual feast of all visual feasts. It is no secret that the players’ skin, hair and makeup are widely adored, but their nails are in a different league of their own.
It is so refreshing to see athletes expressing their enthusiasm, passion and spirit in a way unique to them and free of judgement. I must say, it did a good job of taking the edge off. The most massive global competition that comes only once in four years can be a pressure vault to say the least, and adding fun elements like themed manicures is genius. We are going to consider this my petition to start a new category for the best manicures at the games!
Manika Batra
The Indian table tennis player opted for a simple white background with the Olympics rings and the Indian flag painted on, keeping it elegant and meaningful.
Noah Lyles
The fastest American chose the letters “I-C-O-N” to correctly describe himself. Truly iconic!
Sha’Carri Richardson
If there was a title for the Queen of Olympics Manicures, Sha’Carri would totally own it. She showed off her signature long coffin-shaped talons with the American flag painted on them. Her pinky fingernails brought all the bling with their gold embellishments.
Sara Balzer
The French fencer had double the reason to get these red, white and blue colour-themed nails! She got the Olympic rings, as well as the French flag for a double homage situation.
Laura Collet
The English equestrian mixed it up with the flag of the UK, the Eiffel Tower, Olympics rings and a llama with sunglasses! This has to be the most detailed manicure at the games and is admittedly a personal favourite.
Brianna Throssell
The Australian swimmer gave the classic French manicure a sporty twist by choosing her team colours of green and yellow. The best way to rep your team, isn’t it?
