India being the sub-continent that it is has it’s fair share of mood swings when it comes to the weather. With some states having near arctic temperatures and other keeping it light and breezy. There’s no blanket rule when it comes to dressing that covers the entire country because, let’s be honest some parts could get away with a light throw over stole. While Mumbai might come off looking a bit eager (read:desperate) for winter if they dared sport a pair of fur boots, Delhi would need a straight up layers to keep their couture ‘haute’. So we break down the best way to dress for winter, pseudo or otherwise, state-wise.
Mumbai
Mumbai may love to break out the Christmas themed decorations and candy at this time of the year but the snow is strictly reserved for up North. No matter how some eager dressers may prepare for the next ice-age with their coats and fur boots. While no one can deny that layers makes everything look chicer, you may want to keep it appropriate. With the average low at 22°c you can bust out a light single layer over your regular t-shirt. But the statement piece here ought to be your shoes. Boots being the definitive indicator of the weather outside and the international symbol for winter are possibly your best bet. Nothing too over the top warm, think booties. The ankle boots are a standout piece in most outfits which let you roam around in boots and short without looking like different parts of your body have dressed for different time zones. We’ve picked a few booties to help aid with your outfit planning:

Delhi
Arguably the fashion capital of India, Delhi is blessed with the range of temperature required for seasonal dressing. With the predicted low dropping to 12°c at night during winter months it’s the perfect excuse to throw on layers. Layers not only add texture they also add dimension and hide that extra piece of desert you scarfed down when you thought no one was looking. Your best bet for looking like a winter wonderland is a statement coat. We’re talking mid length, duster and straight up textured. Experiment with a bold colour, faux fur or even go for an oversized coat to look like you borrowed it from bae. We’ve picked a few coats that will keep you warm and chic.

Bengaluru
Bengluru is blessed with stable-ish weather patterns courtesy its temperate climate. It’s perfect seater weather day or night during the pseudo winter. A cute sweater thrown over a pair of distressed jeans or a skirt wouldn’t look out of place year round either. With lows in tandem to what your airconditioner can do, a sweater would do the trick at 18°c. But try and get creative with the hero of your look, experiment with lengths, sleeves and ever knits.

Kolkatta
Kolkatta’s eclectic style can only be described as a curation of indie elements. And when adding elements, layering is always a great direction to move in, but Kolkata’s humid weather has always been a major minus when it comes to adding dimension. Luckily the predicted lows for this winter are 16°c. While that leaves enough room for layering you still might want to keep it light with a statement shawl or stole.
