It’s (almost) time for one of the biggest fashion events in the country—Lakmé Fashion Week 2020 (LFW) . This season, the Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort calendar will start on February 12 and go on till February 16, 2020 at JioWorld Garden, BKC, Mumbai. The five-day event is celebrating 20 years of being in business and will include some of the biggest names from Indian fashion fraternity to commemorate this milestone. One of the most exciting showcase will be by designer Manish Arora, who will present a show celebrating drag queens, something we’ve also seen at his showcase at Paris Fashion Week.

THE DESIGNERS TO WATCH OUT FOR
The finale will be showcased offsite by designer Amit Aggarwal, who will present his collection titled AXIL, a rendition of Lakmé’s theme for this season, #BetterIn3D. You can expect some of Aggarwal’s signatures—razor-sharp constructions with intricate patterns using unusual polymers woven into a fabrics in green, mauve, violet, berry red and silver to create 3D forms. Kareena Kapoor Khan will take the ramp as the grand finale showstopper.

Ritu Kumar will make a comeback to the runway with a collaboration with EcoVero, and designer labels like Kunal Rawal, Eka, Pankaj & Nidhi and Shivan & Narresh will all stage shows. Designer Ashdeen Z Lilaowala will present a collection titled, Memories on Cloth, which will reinterpret traditional motifs and colours seen in Parsi homes.

APART FROMT THE SHOWS, WHAT’S ON THE AGENDA?
PETA is collaborating with Lakmé Fashion Week 2020 on Sustainable Fashion Day, actor Ananya Panday will give a talk on her digital social responsibility initiative, So+, and a sustainability award will be given for the return of the Circular Design Challenge. Last year, the challenge was titled ‘I was a sari’.

Circular Design Challenge will also return this year at LFW
A new space called The Atelier promises to make the fashion week more experiential, and will also feature an online invitation platform. The opening show, presented by Gen Next designers, will take place at Bandra Sea link Promenade and there will also be a unique walk-through commemorating LFW’s 20th anniversary. Other than the opening show, offsite shows will highlight iconic Mumbai hotspots.
