This week, the City of Nizams welcomed First Daughter of the USA Ivanka Trump to the Taj Falaknuma Palace, known for its opulence and grandeur. Ivanka was in Hyderabad for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) is currently underway. Last night, Ivanka and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi dined at the palace hotel’s famous 101 Table, the longest dining table in the world, where they hosted dignitaries, ministers, renowned industrialists, and delegates from the GES. If you, like us, like knowing what is on the menu at every party ever, prepare to drool.
Five courses were presented as per tradition — aghaz (soup), mezban (appetizers), waqfa (sorbet), mashgool dastarkhwan (main course) and zauq e shahi (dessert). The menu was inspired by Hyderabad’s Telangana and Nizami cuisine. Famed local delicacies such as dahi ke kebab, gosht shikampuri kebab, kubani ke malai kofta, murg pista ka salan and sitaphal kulfi were served.
The next time you’re in Hyderabad, you may want to skip the biryani and make a beeline for one of these dishes. Rare artefacts and silver decorative pieces were brought in from the Nizam’s private collection at Chowmahalla Palace and placed on locally sourced fabric which was used to adorn the table.
