Conceptualised by Coco Chanel in the 1920s, the little black dress quickly made a place and became a closet staple. Versatile and easy to pair with almost everything, it’s classic, chic but also safe—a word no one wants their sartorial sense to be associated with. Recently, Bollywood celebrities have been upping their all-black-everything game. Bidding the LBD adieu, we’ve been noticing some head-turning and risk-taking noir attires on the block. From Janhvi Kapoor to Ananya Panday, here are all the recent smoking black ensembles that have been commanding our attention.
1. Ananya Panday
Otherwise known for her girl-next-door vibe, Ananya Panday channeled her inner sultry siren in this halter-neck, centre-front cut-out, form-fitting black dress from Room 24. Styled by Megan Concessio, the rest of the look was toned down with a matching pair of pumps and minimal earrings for the dress to take the centre stage.
2. Shanaya Kapoor
Shanaya Kapoor is yet to make her Bollywood debut, but she’s already making sartorial statements with her fashion choices. For Karan Johar’s grand 50th birthday celebrations, the youngest Kapoor stepped out in black velvet, draped grown with cut-out detail on the hip bone. Amongst the sea of sequins, she stood out in their sculpted outfit by Giovanni D.
3. Sara Ali Khan
One look at Sara Ali Khan’s Instagram and you will know that she loved colours (most of the time blended together). It was rather refreshing to see her step out of her comfort zone and skip the voluminous outfits for a torso-accentuating, semi-sheer David Koma dress.
4. Janhvi Kapoor
Recently, Janhvi Kapoor has been ditching her Chikankari kurta sets for chainmail dresses. The Good Luck Jerry actor has been experimenting with her style and it’s definitely working for her. Case in point: This midriff-baring gown by Antithesis, as it perfectly encapsulates the old-school Hollywood glam.
5. Kiara Advani
Kiara Advani is clearly having a moment, with back-to-back blockbusters in her kitty. The actor is constantly celebrating the success of her films and is often seen decked in her red carpet best. Recently, she wore a black scalloped number by Galvan London, sans the accessories and stole the show by keeping with the mantra ‘less is more.’
