There is an inexplicable charm in watching (or rewatching) your favourite Turkish shows. Don’t know why, but they feel like long cuddles from your favourite person, or a cup of hot chocolate on a rainy day. Supremely comforting & not so far-fetched, given the countless similarities in both Turkish & Indian cultures.
Another factor that entraps us (willingly), in the too-good-to-be-true world of Turkish dramas is the straight out of the runways looking fashion. The female leads seem to have Law Roach’s blessing because how else can you possibly explain the flawless style execution? Something on the lines of walking straight out of a Louis Vuitton or Hermès boutique, which undoubtedly has us more invested. And all thanks to this sartorial hypnosis, our obsession with Turkish shows persists.

Initially a florist by profession, Eda is a your average, bubbly girl-next-door. She then fatefully ends up in a corporate scenario, after a not-so meet cute with her future boss & thus begins the fashion show. And yes, we’re calling it that because never have I EVER seen a woman dress up with such vigour, to slave for a wretched 9-5 grind. I may or may not be projecting, excuse me.
Monochrome pantsuits, quirky co-ords, ethereal mini dresses & the list goes on. It’s like her character is secretly carrying a Thumbelina version of a stylist that they’re keeping from us. And the fact that her hair is always in perfect beach waves makes me wonder what I’m doing wrong.
Reyyan Şadoğlu From Hercai
Chunky knits & grandma-core – that’s the ever smiling Reyyan for you. Set in the picturesque yet slightly conservative town of Midyat, her sartorial versatility boasts of many aesthetics. Featuring a gazillion wrap-around midi dresses & turtle necks paired with rustic trench coats, her modest style has managed to inspire millions of fans & in turn boosted the visibility of Turkish shows around the world.
Sanem Aydın From Erkenci Kuş
If bohemian fashion is up your alley, this Turkish show is set to be your next jam. I mean would you look at the impeccable scarf knotting on the bag strap in the 3rd picture? Who would’ve thought? Sanem Aydın is a writer, juggling the trials and tribulations of living with sweet but nagging parents & a boss who’s……wait, no spoilers.
Brace yourselves for a great deal of trinket sightings, ponchos, dungarees & adorable little rompers. Also a fan of bandana & scarves, she could very well pass as a fashion designer, if only writing wasn’t her one true love.
Mahur Türel From Maraşlı
A photographer by profession (& that too, a rich one), Mahur’s style was bound to be individualistic at the word go. It’s giving trust fund baby but it’s also not ‘in your face,’ thereby giving insight into her independent & grounded personality. Plenty of blazers, leather jackets, strategic layerings, oversized separates & androgynous options.
Very fall season ‘ish yet gravitating towards casual & not preppy. All she needs is a spiced pumpkin latte & a chunky book to keep her company. Or not. Pardon my reckless stereotyping. Nobody drinks kaddu latte in Asia.
Hayat Uzun From Aşk Laftan Anlamaz
Heralded as one of the most popular Turkish shows worldwide, Aşk Laftan Anlamaz is a runway show in itself. Hayat, the female protagonist here, works for a renowned textile house – there was no chance she’d be allowed misses in the sartorial realm.
Workwear in the show is a sheer delight as her character puts on an effortless display of super trendy ensembles. Skirt-suit sets, longline blazers & occasional red carpet sightings – there’s something to soothe every itch of our fashion deprived souls & we’re grateful.
