Condoms On Runways: These Designers Are Furthering The Sex Positivity Mandate

Condoms

If you’ve been keeping up with everything fashion week related, one can be sure that you’ve been exposed to the Diesel X Durex collaboration taking the Milan runways by storm. Featuring a heap of almost 200,000 strategically placed condoms at the entrance of the ramp, the ‘sucsexful’ show, as Diesel’s creative director Glenn Martens likes to call it, made a solid case for sex positivity in the high fashion circles.

This is not the only instance where designers have traversed down the raunchy route. Moschino and Botter have previously marked their territory with collections featuring the condom. Saint Laurent even came out with an elaborate line of ‘luxe condoms’ (mild side eye) during the pandemic. Safe to say, fashion’s dalliance with rubbers is a strong one.

This is not a drill. Diesel stores will be distributing thousands of free condoms when their FW 23 collection hits the stores. Celebrated for its liberal, inclusive and alt-thinker type beat, Diesel has long been a frontrunner in shaping the culture scene in and around fashion. Having partnered with Durex for this monumental show in Milan, it’s no revelation that the collection’s getting sold out in minutes. Cop them as soon as you can.

Botter Spring 2023

For Botter’s SS 23 presentation at Paris Fashion Week, two of the models were lensed wearing prophylactic mini aquariums in place of erm…..gloves. Suspended freely, this bound-to-be-viral moment wasn’t planned for the gimmicks but had a noble intention of raising awareness towards ocean waste, increasing temperatures and dying corals. And the social media traction? A welcome by-product that certainly hurt nobody.

Moschino X H&M Collaboration

Condoms

Wearing an earring shaped like a condom wrapper, Miss Hadid strutted the runway for Moschino X H&M back in 2018 and broke the internet for obvious reasons. Helmed by Jeremy Scott, the suggestive offerings were not just limited to earrings, pendants and glossy sling bags resembling the outline of the rubber wrapper also made quite the sartorial statement.

Saint Laurent’s Pandemic Woes

Condoms

Rolled out under the creative direction of Anthony Vaccarello, the French design house is not only known for its impeccable construction but also their infamous condom line – talk about side gigs. Dubbed haute condoms, the expanding trend of bougee ‘fying the contraceptive has been the at the receiving end of ridicule galore and understandably so.

But if this in any way encourages your privileged highness to practice safe sex, we’re not complaining. Armour is sexy, just saying.
