Located at the heart of New Delhi’s Chattarpur district, couturier Abhinav Mishra recently opened a new flagship store which seamlessly reflected his preference for pastel tones, delicate embroidery, and mirror work. Truth be told, I never expected the store to be so spacious yet cosy at the same time. Maybe that’s got to do with my Bombay upbringing but hey, no complaining. Being greeted by extensive greenery and regal horse head sculptures at the doorstep, the decor enthusiast in me was mesmerised.
Over the years, Abhinav Mishra’s efforts to preserve craftsmanship and the illustrious legacy of India’s former royal regime have brought him to this crucial turning point – the creation of a space that captures the essence of all his previous collections. The expansive 1770 sq. ft. two storey area is adorned with elaborate mirror work, magnificent arches, and is inspired by the opulence and grandeur of Mughal architecture.
An extension of his personality and a tribute to all the things that inspire him, the space is also aspirational in many ways because it captures the spirit of the locations Abhinav has seen and longs to go back to. The store resembles a palace of mirrors, drawing design cues from Sheesh Mahal’s eternal beauty and Mughal grandeur. The store’s aesthetic placement of Venetian lamps and glassware adds in a beautiful element as well. It’s like taking a trip back in time minus the gore and sorry state of women’s rights. Sounds like a good deal if you ask us.
The inlaid clay carvings throughout the store transport you back in time and pay homage to the tombs and opulent palaces. The mood is both modern and retro, recalling a time when even the most basic decoration could enhance a space’s beauty. Sustainable elements utilised in the construction of the area include natural stone, clay, and wood so as to retain a rustic feel.
The space as a whole represents Abhinav’s architectural style as a designer; he spent a lot of time picturing it and only recently was able to realise it in the ideal location. The wall patterns were mindfully created to bring together his aesthetic sensibility and a wealth of cultural allusions. The couturier attempted to stay young while paying respect to the illustrious history of the Mughal era and took the opportunity to express himself in novel and diverse ways.
Abhinav recognised the need for a lovely and relaxing atmosphere where a bride can feel comfortable and express herself freely after listening to feedback and talking with his customers. Everything about the brand is expanded upon in this new store, which is aesthetically magnificent, sumptuous and tranquil.
