Confessions Of A Lazy Beauty Editor: High Maintenance Habits For The ‘I Woke Up Like This’ Vibe

maintenance

Let’s face it: I’m inherently lazy. While I love my long-drawn mindful skincare routines, I am not that big on spending a lot of time getting ready. Sure, I wake up almost 2 hours before I need to leave the house, but that’s only so that I can eat something and THEN drink my coffee (I am aged and I have cortisol maintenance to do as well). I need those 2 hours to be human enough to interact with the rest of the world. Out of those 2 hours the actual non-skincare getting ready part is about 15-20 minutes. So, what’s a lazy girl to do? The answer: high-maintenance beauty habits or practices that help me look human, effortlessly. Make note of these secret weapons that let me coast through life looking put together without actually putting in the work, every day.

Lash Lifting

While most of my genetic makeup is pretty ambiguous, the one I am most frustrated by is my lashes. I have long lashes, but they are stubbornly straight and pointed downwards. No amount of curling and waterproof mascara can keep them curled for more than an hour. So, lash lifts! One session and my lashes are perfectly curled and voluminous for weeks. It’s like mascara without the smudging, clumping, or panda eyes. I once woke up late for a work meeting, threw on some BB cream and lip balm, and strolled in like I’d spent hours primping.

Nail Overlays

I have a major peeve against chipped nail paint. There’s nothing more frustrating than spending an hour doing a perfect mani only to have it chip within days. My solution? Nail overlays. These babies give me flawless nails that last for weeks without a single chip in sight. Plus, they give my natural nails the added strength they desperately need. And the hands are always ready for whatever I need to do.

Keratin Treatment

My hair is usually limp and mostly straight, but thanks to the Bombay weather, it is always puffy and frizzy-looking. Blow drying and straightening every day? Not a chance. That’s why I splurge on keratin treatments. They leave my hair silky smooth and frizz-free for months. I can roll out of bed, run a brush through my hair, and be ready to go.

Dermaplaning, dermatologist visits and facials

I have always said this – I do my skincare meticulously only so that on the days when I can’t do it – my skin cares for me instead. Dermaplaning (shaving my face) once a month, visiting my dermatologist and having her recommend a treatment or facial according to what my skin needs that month ensures my skin gets what it needs and doesn’t behave badly regardless of my skincare routine (or lapses).

These high-maintenance beauty treatments are my secret to looking effortlessly put together while embracing my lazy nature. They save me countless hours and hassle, letting me hit the snooze button and still wake up looking fabulous. Because why work harder when you can work smarter?
