Is it just me or are braids the uncrowned queens of hairdos? I mean they tick all the boxes. Want to look chic? End a Dutch braid with a tortoiseshell barrette. Heading to Coachella? Go for twisted space buns. Attending a wedding? Try a fishtail plait and accessorise with fresh flowers. Throwing your hair back in a braid is the genius because it ensures your hair stays in place while earning you major style points. And the last thing we want to do is struggle with a straightening iron and blow dryer. The heat from stylers will zap out moisture from the hair, leading to more kinks and frizz.
When it comes to braids, there are tons of styles you can try with minimal effort. Dress them up with a scarf or just wear them as is. Here are a few of our celebrity favourites…
Twin Space Buns
Twin buns make a comeback, thanks to Taylor Swift who sported the hairstyle on the cover of her new album Folklore. Loosely part your hair into two sections and braid it. Secure the ends with an elastic, twist it into a bun and use hair slides to keep it in place.
Bohemian Twist
Mix it up with a few skinny braids and a messy fishtail, like actor Malavika Mohanan. Keep it wispy for a boho feel or clean it up for a Greek goddess-inspired look. Here’s a similar plait tutorial to get you started:
Double Trouble
To recreate actor Sara Ali Khan’ fuss-free braids, start with a clean, centre parting and French plait from the crown till you reach your nape. Secure each plait with hair ties and leave the ends in a ponytail.
