These conditioners are serious frizz-fighting soldiers

Like Hermione Granger, many of us deal with excessive frizz when the monsoons hit but, unlike the prodigy witch from Harry Potter, we sadly don’t have magical potions at our disposal. What we do have though, is the next best thing, aka frizz-taming conditioners. Before we give you the lowdown on the products, it’s important to understand what causes flyaways and frizz. Serious offenders include: hot styling tools, humid weather, dehydrated scalps, sulfate-rich shampoos (they strip away natural oils), and even vigorously rubbing your hair.

The right kind of hair conditioner and mask will be your biggest ally in the fight to control frizz. “Try a silicone-based conditioner,” says Rod Anker, hairstylist and founder of Rod Anker Salon. “But make sure you don’t use it continuously for a very long period of time. Silicones form a coating on the hair shaft that can suffocate the strand over time and leave them brittle.” While silicone formulas work well with all kinds of hair, oil-spiked products (with wheatgerm, argan or avocado oils) are better suited for curls. Not only are they incredibly moisturising, they will also keep your curls in shape.

To get the most out of your conditioner, apply it on damp and not dripping, wet hair. “This will ensure that the formula doesn’t get diluted and does its job efficiently,” says Rod. If you’re looking for an at-home deep conditioning treatment, Adhuna Bhabani, BBlunt’s creative director and hairstylist recommends tying up your hair with a hot towel after you’ve applied conditioner. The heat helps the product to sink deeper into hair and work its magic.
