Theatre fans, free up your schedule to go watch Death And The Maiden, the internationally acclaimed play that has made its way to the national capital this moth. Actor Vidushi Mehra, along with Samar Sarila, brings the iconic Chilean play, written by Ariel Dorfman, to life as her first directorial venture.
Death And The Maiden may have been written in 1990, but its plot still makes for a relevant story. Narrating the compelling tale of the protagonist Paulina, the story documents the effects of crimes against women—also playing with the relationship dynamics between Paulina, her husband Gerardo, and her rapist Miranda. Once again, the narrative shines light on blame, rejection, betrayal, and mental wellbeing, all issues that continue to resonate with the audience 27 years later.
Keeping in mind the theme of the play, a percentage of the ticket sales will go to the Azad Foundation, an NGO that assists and aids poor-resourced women by teaching them new skills so that they lead a more empowered lifestyle.
The play opens on April 2nd and will run all through to April 10th at The Dhan Mill Compound in New Delhi.
