The statistics about the number of tigers, and other big wild cats, left around the world are grim and foreboding. Despite many conservation attempts, the awareness of just how much we’ve lost is still sporadic. Hermès, along with wild cat conservation organisation Panthera, has decided to take on the task and pay homage to noted French artist Robert Dallet at the same time. The Parisian luxury house is organising an exhibition featuring the works of Dallet, who was a long time wild cat enthusiast.
‘Fierce and Fragile – Big Cats in the Art of Robert Dallet’ features the artist’s drawings, illustrations and paintings of the eight big cat species: tiger, lion, leopard, cheetah, cougar, jaguar, snow leopard and clouded leopard.
Hermès director Pierre-Alexis Dumas is looking to pay homage to Dallet’s love for the feline species on a larger platform. “By making Dallet’s hitherto little-known genius available to a worldwide audience on the tenth anniversary of his death with a travelling exhibition, a book, and a generous scarf to support Panthera on the tenth anniversary of its life, we hope to help raise awareness about the precarious existence of wild cats and their environments on a global basis,” says Dumas.
The exhibition that was launched in the USA, has toured Milan, Munich, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and will culminate in Mumbai.
