Anyone who hates getting up early in the morning will relate to the struggle between deciding whether to spend an extra 20 minutes in bed or attempt a hairdo that creates the illusion of you being a normal functioning member of society. Needless to say, the 20 blissful moments usually win. Is there a way to balance your innate love of sleep with your desire to look properly finished? We’re glad you asked.
The messier the better
The way to turn a bad hair day into a good one is easier than you might have thought. The key is to get messy. Celebrity hairstylist Daniel Bauer agrees, “The more you structure your hairstyle, the more age it brings — perfectly undone is more youthful.”
Preparation is key
Before you go to town on the messy hair and messier ponytails, Bauer asserts that your arsenal needs two weapons at all times: Hairspray and a good styling cream. Avoid getting confused by the massive amounts of hairstyling products available in the market and stick to the basics. According to him, these products are the key to looking like a star with minimal effort.
Do away with fly-aways
If you want your hairdo to say ‘messy’ instead of ‘messed up’, you need to do something about those pesky fly-aways. While supermodel Tyra Banks swears by her trusty lip balm to smooth out fly-away hairs when she’s on the go, Bauer suggests using a little hairspray on your brush to get rid of them.
Washing hair is overrated
You did not misread that. You’ve got the blessings of the man behind Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif’s perpetually good hair days to avoid shampooing your hair frequently. “The best hair to style is hair that hasn’t been washed in a few days,” Bauer says. To avoid looking like a re-animated version of Severus Snape, make friends with a dry shampoo and never let it go.
