#OpenLetter: Dear Frontline Workers, Thank You For Doing This All Over Again
Thank you isn’t enough
Dear Frontline Workers,
You probably hear the words thank you a hundred times in a day, but I want to say thank you from the perspective of someone who has, firsthand, seen the struggle you go through for us. My thank you comes from all the nights and eerie mornings I have seen my sister, a doctor herself, rush to the hospital to save a life. It is a thank you that will never be enough for what you do.
As you put on your PPE suit every day to treat thousands of Covid-19 positive patients flooding in your hospital, please know that you’re no less than a soldier. You have an armour suit, you have the weapons, and you have the power to save. And in this situation of crisis, you’re the real warriors saving us. I feel privileged that I have the luxury of time to focus on my mental health in a time like this. And when I think of you, it breaks my heart. Because I know that you haven’t got even a minute to process your own emotions and thoughts, all while dealing with your personal losses.

Thank you for giving your days and nights into turning that positive to negative, giving hope to everyone from a 17-year-old to a 90-year-old that they’ll be okay and trying your best to send people back home safely. Saving a life isn’t easy when you’re not equipped with the facilities, and I cannot even begin to imagine what you’re feeling right now. It is okay if you break down in your emergency rooms. It is okay if you doze off for a minute on a bed meant for your patient. It is okay if you take a deep breath and pause.
I am sorry on behalf of everyone who didn’t take this seriously. And it boils my blood to know that you’re facing the consequences for their actions. Sorry for everyone who didn’t wear masks. Sorry for every single Indian who didn’t sanitise or wash their hands. Sorry for every single soul for whom hanging out in the pandemic was cool.
Please know that you are not alone in this. We see you. We hear you. We feel you. And we promise to stand by you and walk together. It is all okay going to be okay in the end. And if it isn’t, then it’s not the end.
Thank you for doing what you do. No one can match up to it.
