From questionable collaborations, renowned designers making comebacks to striking runway looks galore—fashion has never been so dynamic and we’re for it. 1. Balenciaga’s 50th Haute Couture Show
Marking its return to haute couture for the first time since 1968, Georgian fashion designer and Creative Director Demna Gvasalia revisited the luxury maison’s archives for the show. With nods to Cristóbal Balenciaga’s heritage and iconic designs, the phenomenal show at the Balenciaga salon at 10 Avenue Georges V, Paris showcased a range of looks with a contemporary twist.
2. Pyer Moss’ Ode To Black Innovation
After years of bringing Black excellence to the forefront of fashion, Pyer Moss made history and took the industry by storm. Founder and designer of the label, Kerby Jean-Raymond, became the first Black-American designer invited by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture to make his couture debut. The best part? He showcased the show at the Villa Lewaro in upstate New York, which belonged to one of America’s most famous Black self-made millionaires, Madame CJ Walker.
3. Bella Hadid’s Golden Lungs
Supermodel Bella Hadid made headlines after her red-carpet look at the 74th Cannes Film Festival caught everyone’s attention on and off the internet. Donning a risqué Schiaparelli long-sleeved black dress and a golden necklace in the shape of lungs covered with rhinestones, Hadid’s appearance was both dazzling and jaw-dropping.
4. Dior X Paris Saint-Germain
Luxury fashion house Dior stunned the world when it signed a two-year partnership with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Starting this season, Dior will design the official wardrobe for the popular Parisian football club, marking the fashion label’s first association with a sports club. From cashmere coats, jackets, trousers to shirts—the pieces will reflect Dior’s exceptional aesthetic and artistry.
5. Jacquemus’ Star-Studded La Montagne Show
Set in a film studio just outside of Paris, French fashion designer Simon Porte Jacquemus made his in-person show debut with his model friends walking the ramp. Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Adut Akech and more—the presentation showcased looks inspired by skiwear and lingerie.
6. Balenciaga X Crocs Stiletto
Balenciaga set the internet ablaze when it released the stiletto Croc with a whopping ‘$1000 (INR 73,640) a pair’ price tag on it. The partnership was introduced as a part of Balenciaga’s Spring 2022 collection. And here’s our thought on it: the collaboration was either a joke or an insanely cool prank on the elite.
7. Marc Jacobs’ Return To New York Fashion Week
After remaining absent for a season from the official New York Fashion Week calendar, the fashion designer made a striking comeback with the Fall-Winter 2021 Ready-To-Wear Collection show. Held at the New York Public Library, the presentation showcased a series of colourful and voluminous silhouettes on a loop on the facade of Bergdorf Goodman at 754 Fifth Avenue. From Kaia Gerber, Gigi Hadid to a cameo from Miley Cyrus—the show not only marked the designer’s return but also New York city coming back to life!
