In Conversation With Sukhmani Sadana About Here Creative Journey And Wedding Moodboard

Sukhmani Sadana has aced every field she has stepped into. Her multifaceted persona has left an impact on the film business both as an actor and a writer. From the streets of Amritsar to the billboards of Mumbai, we’ve witnessed her tour the world on National Geographic, write a heart-tugging story for Diljit Dosanjh starrer Jogi (2022), and take over the red carpet at the first edition of the ELLE List Awards in Mumbai. Sadana sat down with ELLE India for a quick chat on movies, marriage,
and more.

ELLE: You’ve many interests—writing, travel, acting. Which of those do you connect to the most?

Sukhmani Sadana (SS): I would say travel because it’s easier. Writing, for me, is a profession. And as much as I love it, I do it because it drives me, and I am passionate about it, but travelling for me is leisure. Living in a city like Mumbai, you’re always tired and hustling. It’s life at full throttle because it’s in top gear. Travelling, on the other hand, makes me feel very relaxed and alive. I feel like all of my hard work is worthwhile because I will eventually be able to travel with the money I earn. Travel is the best form of expenditure because you are not adding something materialistic to your life but growing yourself.

ELLE: Being a well-known social media figure, how do you cope with negativity on the internet?

SS: Honestly, it stopped bothering me a long time ago. All celebrities and influencers go through it. When you have the guts to post something, you must also have the guts to accept what comes with it. Not everyone will say, ‘Hey, you’re beautiful, adorable, I love you.’ That’s just how it is. With every good thing, there’s always a little bit of evil, and you’ve got to take it with a pinch of salt. I am someone who appreciates criticism. Sometimes it hurts, of course, but so be it.

ELLE: Congratulations on your wedding. It’s a common notion for people to assume that life changes after marriage. How do you feel about that perception, and how do you think marriage will impact your life going forward?

SS: I don’t think life will change much after marriage; life is how you make it to be. Happiness is a state of mind, and you will find it wherever you go. Like I always say, nothing is perfect. Life is not a fairytale, but it’s your attitude that matters. I’ll be dividing my time between Vancouver and Mumbai. My writing, acting, and anchoring will continue, and I will also set up a home and family in Vancouver simultaneously. I think life is all about balance, and that’s what I’m seeking.

ELLE: Your Instagram profile offers a glimpse into your unique style. How did you incorporate your aesthetic into your wedding?

SS: I infuse simplicity, elegance, and old-world charm into everything I do. I always want things to be visually appealing. There is enough chaos outside our lives, so keeping this aspect of my life minimalistic was nice.

ELLE: What is one self-care ritual that helped you unwind during the wedding chaos?

SS: I am a clutterhead. As a writer, I think a lot, I overanalyse, and I have several lengthy to-do lists. So, what really helps me is meditation. Sixty to ninety minutes of workout allows me to think, declutter, and organise my head.

ELLE: What project are you looking forward to next?

SS: I am most excited about this show I’ve written for Applause Entertainment. It’s about swindles and scams, and it’s a different one for me. It fascinated me as I had no clue about the banking and finance world.
