Fashion Rewind At NYFW A/W 23: Moments That Defined The Big Apple’s Penchant For The Classics & Theatrics

NYFW

It may be curtains down at NYFW but for the city that never sleeps, fashion is an omnipresent characteristic, seeped into its core. With seasoned players like Brandon Maxwell, Rodarte and Area showcasing their finest, this season’s NYFW also witnessed the debut of Melke, Puppets & Puppets and more. Heavy on the spectacle grounds yet muted with respect to a timely recycling of classic trends, it’s safe to say that this edition gave us tons of viral moments and fresher entrants that stole the spotlight.

Keep reading for a roundup of the most memorable moments at NYFW 2023:

Animal Planet

Collina Strada’s AW 23 collection titled ‘Please Don’t Eat my Friends’ was the most-talked-about moment for obvious reasons. With laid-back casuals defined by occasional sightings of feminine trims and embellishments, the collection surely transported us to the shrubby corner of Area 51.

Tailored To The T

Known to favour the vivid and colourful, Maxwell’s recent-most outing was a minimalistic delight. With the incorporation of leather, sharp cuts and even sharper tailoring, the neutral pallet earned the label extra brownie points on the commercial viability scale. Brandon is down to business.

Pristine drapery and fluid yet structured proportions, that’s Altuzarra’s recent offering at NYFW. With decadent asymmetry, luxuriant furs and trench coats dominating the line-up, their presentation can easily be deemed as the most balanced one amongst other counterparts.

A whole lot of leather and risqué cutouts rose the temperatures at Dion Lee’s show this season. Borrowing a few masculine elements and melding them with demure feminine sensibilities successfully, makes Lee one of the most intelligent designers of our time.

Regency Reinterpreted

A lingerie dress straight out of Bridgerton’s set is how we would sum this collection up for a fashion noob. Albeit ornately detailed and heavy on the jazz, there was a sense of cleanliness away from the clutter – a sureshot marker of great craftsmanship and design.

Food Porn

Bananas and melons are apparently in fashion now, given Area can surprisingly make these fruits look high-fashion, away from the childlike association with anything food related. The collection hit the sweet spot between avant-garde and wearable since the silhouette selection was smartly balanced and refreshing.

Whimsical Gothicism

A post shared by RODARTE (@rodarte)

Rodarte was the highlight of the entire season, if we may be bold to say so. With darkly pigmented lips, over-the-top headgear and plenty of theatrical silhouettes, the American brand set the standard for the spectacle we all yearn to witness at THE fashion week.
