Lollapalooza India’s decision to finally sway towards the Halsey tide had me stalking her Instagram exhaustively. Am I her biggest fan? Yeah, if being able to mouth the lyrics to 4 of her songs counts (Closer included). But what I’m adept at (or so I’d like to believe), is evaluating the personal style of these celebrities and giving my two cents on it.
The American singer and songwriter’s look-book is replete with high fashion outings and recently, she was also spotted wearing a few Indian designers post her performance at Lollapalooza Mumbai. There’s also Rabanne, YSL, Chanel and a healthy mix of young and indie brands which lends her style this sense of raw omnipotence. Let’s skim through her best fashion moments in recent times.
Pearlescent Affair
Post her concert at Lollapalooza India, Halsey was lensed in a custom Anamika Khanna piece characterised by the house’s signature intricate embroidery and an anklet worn as a hathphool from Tribe Amrapali.
Fusion & Fame
This Saakshi Kinni blouse and jewellery from Tribe Amrapali was her armour of choice for her performance which was very well received by Indian fans. Always a pleasure to witness a global artist embrace the culture of other countries whilst staying true to their own sensibilities.
Desi Girl 2.0
The Bad At Love hitmaker donned an Arpita Mehta number when out with her boyfriend Avan Jogia in Mumbai. Subtle yet impactful.
Classic Convergence
Tweeds, skirt-suit sets and tailored precision – this is the sum total of one’s expectations at the mere mention of a Chanel moment. However, the Grammy-nominated artist lends her own masc spin with the oversized details on this stunning nautical top and signature accessories from the Parisian fashion house.
Gaultier Guestlist
Fashion folks know the relevance of this iconic Gaultier print and simultaneously acknowledge the nerve to pull this off. Let’s face it, not a lot of mainstream celebrities possess the spunk and appetite to flaunt such niche fashions but that’s certainly not the case with her. We graciously approve.
The Vixen Strikes
Wearing Spanish designer Luis De Javier, her Catwoman ‘esque makeover during this year’s Halloween vanquished all previous renditions of the said character. From the neatly arranged latex panels on the bustier to the ultra-sexy gloves, she’s undoubtedly the one to beat when it comes to serving looks.
Special shoutout to the theatric eye makeup, which, for your kind information has been all done by her.
Strictly Business
A die-hard fan of digging out archival gems from the best in business, Halsey turned to vintage haven Tab Vintage for this F/W 1980 Yves Saint Laurent suit titled ‘Le Smoking’. The sheer expanse of her eclectic tastes is why we ordain her as one of the best dressed music artists of our time.
Flower Power
Here comes another archival moment from this year’s AMFAR gala where this Chantal Thomass A/W 1992 number saw the light of the day. Championing the pinnacle of ’90s glamour, this body-con dress with the taut make and embellished cutout seamlessly blends in with today’s sensibilities whilst celebrating the yesteryears.
Boudoir Chic
Trust the Closer singer to model cult-favourite brand Mirror Palais and fashion biggie YSL, both converging on this sheer path and nailing the ‘barely there’ trend. Lingerie as outerwear is still relentlessly topping trend charts and one could turn to her fashion prudence and take notes on acing the same.
The Paco Effect
When deciding ensembles, it might be difficult to fuse two eras that don’t seem to go together, but she succeeded admirably when she showed up to witness Rabanne’s Paris Fashion Week outing.
The late designer’s iconic liquid-metal chainmail gown, worn by the superstar singer, was softened by a head scarf, a grandmotherly fashion choice that gave the futuristic ensemble a nostalgic twist.
A Little Hip & Hop
Embracing the off-duty aesthetic sans compromising on the ‘dressed to kill’ mandate, here, we’re loving the Him & I singer in this low-key skirt and crop top. The balaclava style head-wrap is also a cute addition.
