Overlined lips, exaggerated eye looks, and OTT hair, the pop-music industry really upped its game when it comes to setting outlandish beauty trends through music videos over the years. Needless to say, some of these looks made for some iconic beauty trends. If you’re looking for a throwback compilation of our favourite looks, you’ve landed on the right page. Here’s a tip, as we approach the long weekend (can’t wait!), put one of these on to make a bold statement.
1. Telephone by Lady Gaga ft. Beyonce
Whether it’s a sharp graphic cat eyeliner or Queen B’s American flag-print nails, Lady Gaga pulled out all the stops with her Coco-Cola can hair rollers in Telephone’s music video. Created by Danilo, Lady Gaga’s hairstylist, this look became one of the most iconic looks for Halloween.
2. 7 Rings by Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande’s Princess Leia inspired space buns became quite popular in 2020 right after the release of the 7 Rings and were then seen on countless YouTube tutorials. TBH, who actually forgot that look? We all remember Rachel Green wearing the look for a ‘fun’ night with Ross in a popular sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S!
3. We’re Good by Dua Lipa
The list isn’t complete without our music industry’s favourite! Dua Lipa’s eccentric spaced out orange eye look that was paired with a nude lipstick in this music video became an all time fan favourite ever since she dropped the music video.
4. Material Girl by Madonna
Madonna’s Marilyn Monroe inspired hair look with a coral eyeshadow, blushed cheeks, and shimmery lids was all things glam in this music video! We saw it making a comeback (and how) at this year’s red carpet.
5. Baby One More Time by Britney Spears
The pigtails school trend is anything but childish and Briney Spears proved it with her look in the music video of Baby One More Time. With two half-up pigtails pulled tight on each side, this was definitely one of my favourite Britney Spears beauty looks!
6. Un-Break My Heart by Toni Braxton
Toni Braxton’s brown lip liner paired with a glossy lip colour in Un-Break My Heart created a frenzy in the beauty industry over a decade ago! As the industry was steering towards frosted lips and bold eyeliners, this music video set the stage for lip liners to be the 90’s ultimate beauty trend.
7. So What by P!nk
Known for her OTT fashion taste and eccentric beauty looks, P!nk really outdid herself with her bleached blonde hair in the music video of So What which was released 12 years ago! It’s true that no one could have done it better than her but blonde hair did become a brave trend to sport back then.
