5 Ways Silk Can Save Your Hair

Silk Hair Accessories

Realistically, long hair length is too much of a hassle, but the texture is something I would really want. Come to think of it, the task is not impossible to achieve. However, there is no quick fix to beautiful luscious hair. Trust me, spending a ton of money on temporary keratin treatments is not what I’m talking about. Social media has recently been hyping silk scrunchies and scarves. From sponsored ads to influencers and celebrities, almost everyone is talking about the benefits of using silk for better hair health. So I decided to do some digging of my own. Here is what I found!

Silk is a natural protein fibre and is one of the most luxurious materials. It is loved for its smooth texture and glamorous look. It has been mentioned about in Ayurveda and is one of the strongest fibres. Incorporating silk in your hair care routine has endless benefits like less friction, locking in hydration, preventing breakage and encouraging your hair’s natural movement. Here’s how you can add silk to your haircare routine.

1. Pillowcases

Silk’s texture helps your hair glide on the fabric without causing friction. Whereas cotton, which is known for its soft texture, snags the hair and causes tangles, and you are more likely to wake up with frizzy hair or flyaways. Silk pillowcases also help keep the hydration locked in your hair because of its inability to absorb moisture. On the other hand, cotton absorbs the moisture leaving your hair dry or giving you a flaky scalp.

2. Hair Bonnets

If you don’t know what a hair bonnet is, let me elaborate. A hair bonnet is a soft version of a cap ideally worn during sleep. All you have to do is tuck away your hair in the bonnet and get your good night’s sleep. Silk hair bonnets are an excellent investment if you want to make your hair goals fuss-free. They ensure your conditioning products aren’t soaked into your pillowcase while pushing them to work harder. If you have recently had a blowout or styled your hair, it will also protect and keep your hair intact while you sleep.

3. Scrunchies

Silk scrunchies are not the first thing that comes to your mind about hair care but they can play a significant role in maintaining good hair health. Silk scrunchies hold the hair gently, keeping them in place while making you look fabulous. A regular cotton scrunchie or hair tie can damage the hair, leaving it tangled or looking like a nest and the pain that comes along with taking it off is something no one enjoys. It’s time to swap your regular hair ties with silk scrunchies. PS: you don’t need to spend big bucks to get your hands on these silk ties.

4. Silk Hair Scarves

Hair scarves have been making a statement lately, and silk is a fabric that oozes elegance, so why not put them together and invest in a silk hair scarf. They are such a fashion statement, especially for spring and summer. Silk will protect your hair in scorching heat with the help of its temperature regulating properties. The best part is that silk is hypoallergenic with natural resistance to dust and fungus. It won’t irritate the skin while you look gorgeous and serve looks.

Why limit yourself to scrunchies and scarves while accessorising with silk. Pick out silk headbands to channel your inner Blair Waldorf. If you want to curl your hair ditch the hot tongs and get yourself a heatless silk hair curling ribbon for bouncy curls. Or, if you wish to experiment with wigs, they are the new game changers since the Kardashians have started flaunting them, but getting your hands on the right kind of wig can be tricky. Silk laced wigs are the upgraded option you might like to try. They will protect your hair while sitting flawlessly.

I’m not sure about you, but this has definitely convinced me to give silk fabric a shot and include it in my haircare routine.
