The first Monday of May is approaching soon and the fashion crowd knows what’s up. Met Gala a.k.a the Oscar of fashion is designated to happen on 2nd May 2022 this year. For those who are still living under the rock and are unaware of this mammoth of an event—Met Ball or Met Gala is a celebration of fashion, that pays homage to the legacy of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Crème de la crème of Hollywood and fashion grace the event dressed by some of the most sought-after designers from across the globe. The Met Gala also doubles up as a fundraiser for the museum, punctuating the star-studded night with a poignant purpose.
Met Gala 2022 Theme
Less than a year after its first post-pandemic instalment in September 2021, the Met Gala is back to its original calendar. “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” is the theme for the night, Gilded Glamour is the layman’s decode of the same. In continuation to the 2021 theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” this will be another showcase, focusing on the rich history of American fashion and its many facets. Expect rich jewel tones dipped in opulence and grandeur. The dress code is strictly white-tie and the guests will be expected to embody the Gilded Age of New York.
Co-Chairs This Year
This year’s list of co-chairs have us smiling from ear to ear. If it isn’t everyone’s favourite Hollywood couple, known for trolling each other on Twitter but lovingly gazing into each other’s eyes on the red carpet—Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds—along with actor Regina King and musical legend Lin-Manuel Miranda. These A-listers will be taking on the guestlist, food and decor duties—along with designing the general aesthetic of the evening.
Celebrity Sighting
No surprises here, Thye Kardashian-Jenner clan will return to the Met steps as per usual—with momager Kris awaiting with a camera right at the top. Although, it will be interesting to see which designer will each of the sisters will pair up with. After a year of dressing up mostly in Demna’s Balenciaga, Kim Kardashian has everyone anticipating her next internet-breaking move. Apart from the reality TV moguls, fans are hoping that Rihanna will climax her maternity style at the Met in an exaggerated ensemble—incarnating the gilded goddess she inherently is. While the red carpet’s most-awaited style star, Zendaya will be sitting this one out due to her other commitments—we’re hoping to catch a glimpse of the majestic Beyoncé, to fill the Zendaya-shaped hole in our hearts.
Surprising Elements
According to the popular fashion Instagram account Diet Sabya, Deepika Padukone will be attending the coveted event in Louis Vuitton. Allegedly, the Gehraiyaan actor will soon be announced as the brand ambassador of the luxury house, hence the pairing up with the label’s women’s wear creative head Nicholas Gesquiere only seems befitting. In the past, Deepika has walked the Met red carpet in creations by designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Prabal Gurung and Zac Posen.
