Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing women shatter the glass ceiling, squash stereotypes & carve a niche of their own. As I type out these qualities, I envision Padma Lakshmi staring right into my face, with a self-assured grin, probably wearing then most beautiful dress you’ve ever seen.
Even though I’m thousands of miles apart from her closest circle, Padma Lakshmi seems like ‘that teacher’ who gently nudges you aside to give you a pep talk right before the performance. Or ‘that aunt’ who’d convince your parents to finally let you go for a solo trip abroad. Yes, I need a hug from her, to put it simply.

An author, a culinary genius, a model & an activist, Padma Lakshmi has donned multiple hats in classic girlboss fashion. The Emmy nominee is also revered for her marvelous sense of dressing & is known to favor the risqué.
Let’s take a look at some of her best style moments:
Oscars ’18 Sheer Chic
The Top Chef host opted for a skinny, floor length, sheer black gown with a white lace paneling & a bodysuit underneath. A unique & experimental choice in itself, you know the red carpet’s ’bout to be lit when Padma Lakshmi graces the show.
This bright pink Gustavo Cadile jumpsuit was her armor of choice for a special screening of Captain Marvel in the big apple. Seen acing this look with a plunging neckline & sleek sharp hair, we’re still unsure as to why Marvel hasn’t signed her yet.
Having arrived on the Emmy’s red carpet dripping in what we may refer to as liquid gold, the sweetheart neckline coupled with the overlapping draped bodice was sure a pleasant take on an otherwise simple satin gown.
If I had 1/10th the confidence Padma Lakshmi has, I’d probably be in the Parliament giving a speech. Till then, let me soak in the gracious slit of this one shouldered metallic dress. With a boned corset underneath & the 3D embellishments, this OTT look sure is one of her top most serves on the sartorial scoreboard.
A Boho Reminiscence
Parading the city streets never looked this good. In a bias cut satin slip dress & silver flats, we’re reminded of the fact that dressing down needn’t always be boring. A red lip & a stack of bangles alongside is enough to seal the deal. We’re taking notes.
Cutouts For Days
For the Keep A Child Alive fundraiser, this midnight blue suede dress made the final cut. Characterized by the hard to miss cutout & a distinctive neckline, the dress is by Cushnie et Ochs, a now-shut brand which was renowned for its bodycon pieces, courtesy their exemplary construction.
I See Red
Padma Lakshmi chose an Ester Abner gown for the 70th Emmys & the Greek gods called, saying they want their Queen back. They can crib all they want, we’re not letting her go. Not with that immaculately draped chiffon & the ample side slit. Russian designers are creative wizards, truly.
Out N About
Strutting the streets & how. This knitted knee length dress is easy-breezy casual core at its finest. I’m still wondering how Padma Lakshmi manages make the street look like a runway, despite the godforsaken plastic bag lying at the back. Nation wants to know.
Girlboss & Co.
Captured in a Christian Siriano white pantsuit (tailored by the gods themselves), Padma Lakshmi once again proved her penchant for acing business formal with umpteen glam. After dismissing the ‘where’s the shirt underneath?’ mandate, the styling decision of wearing the Jacquie Aiche chain did a lot in terms of elevating the look.
