Marriages are much like remote controls. Sometimes, everything just works. At other times, you have to hit some spots to keep things moving. Sometimes, you’ve tried pressing, whacking, thinking it through but nothing budges. You’ve been working on it, but it simply isn’t enough. Yet, divorce comes with its own set of challenges.
The continuous bombardment of unsolicited advice on how to save yourself from the eternal doom of the divorcee tag can be aggravating. Marriages are tough. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Doesn’t make you any less of a human. Maybe more of it.
Celebs are no stranger to failed marriages, supposed entanglements, under the table agreements and consensual swinging. As for Hollywood, divorces are super common with a rate as high as 52% as statistically dissected in this Medium article.
Let’s have a look at celeb marriages that lasted for a time shorter than my phone battery:
Britney Spears & Jason Alexander: 55 hours
55 hours, this has to be a joke. Or a Vegas whim. Which it was. Britney wed her childhood friend Jason Alexander at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Vegas back in 2004. The annulment came in early at a record breaking time of 55 hours. Got to be the shortest wedding in the history of Hollywood, without a doubt. Now that she just got hitched to Sam Asghari, Jason gatecrashed her wedding and is now locked up. Exes deserve a special pre-booked spot in hell.
Cher & Gregg Allman: 9 days
Goddess of pop and feminist icon Cher had a short lived marriage (10 days) with Allman Brothers frontman Gregg Allman back in 1975. To no one’s surprise, Vegas was the location where the nuptials took place. Something’s in the air there. Or water. Pretty sure a steady stream of vodka flows in the taps.
Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries: 72 days
Kimberly’s fresh divorce with her now ex-husband Kanye was a social media war waged by Pete (or should I say skete?) and Ye stans. But her second marriage to Kris Humphries was no less than a media spectacle and if rumours are to be believed, reports state that the said marriage was a publicity stunt. Interesting.
Pamela Anderson & Rick Salomon: 2 Months
Baywatch star Pamela and Rick Salomon tied the knot in 2007 in drumroll please: Vegas!! It was Anderson who filed for the divorce citing irreconcilable differences. They remarried in 2014 (why?) and divorced the very same year in ‘Nevada’ citing fraud as a reason. One core takeaway from this article is that I’m never setting foot in that state. NEVER EVER.
Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth: 8 Months
After being in an on and off relationship for a decade, Miley and Liam tied the knot in December 2018 only to get divorced in August next year. Cyrus later stated that the marriage was a f***ing disaster and the end was inevitable. This one truly hurt.
