Nope, it has nothing to do with vinyl records but everything to do with high-shine, lacquer-style lips that are not just glossy but highly pigmented and downright stunning. Think gloss on steroids.
Sure, we love our mattes and powdery finishes and soft clean girl aesthetics, but 2022 was also all about embracing that pop and shine again. Maybe because this was the breakout year after being confined indoors for so long (no thanks, Covid). Like the late Dame Anita Roddick, Founder of The Body Shop, had once said “beauty is an active, outward expression of everything you like about yourself.” Our physical self is mirroring the mental state of our freedom once again, and that freedom to express ourselves comes in the form of bold lips, neon and glittery eyelids, snatched cheekbones that you can cut glass on, colours aplenty…a celebration of life so to speak.
Now, vinyl lips have garnered attention from makeup artists, influencers, and TikTokers around the globe. It gets its name from the high-shine glossy finish these products lend the lips and remind us of shiny vinyl material. You can go subtle with paler nude-y or pink shades or go full-on va va voom with deep reds, purples and even blacks. Vinyl lipsticks give the lips a fuller, plumper appearance, it looks uber glamorous and when done in bold colours, its mirror shine gives you that statement pout!
