Sneakers with heels? Useful for when you need to catch the train but still want to arrive looking sharp. These looks are from Nida Mahmood’s line for AIFW, called ‘Junglee Billi’ as an ode to the women of Mumbai. The collection, says the street art-obsessed designer, finds inspiration from the city as it was in the 1960s, so it’s apt that her accomplice is the iconic adidas Superstar sneaker. The shoes were launched in the same decade and went on to become a hit on the basketball court as well as the streets. For her upcoming show at AIFW, Mahmood promises to deliver what she’s best known for, ie whimsical Indian pop culture prints, plus quirky props and models in sneakers.
