Mumbai becomes the first Indian city to have 8 police stations with women in charge

If you needed any more proof that 2018 is the year of women kicking butt and taking names, read this: Mumbai has made the wise decision to adapt with the times and for the first time in history, the city will have eight police stations with women in charge.

Mumbai Police announced in a tweet that the city is the first in the country to have eight women entrusted with such a huge responsibility. “Eight women police station in-charges a first in any city in the country, protecting the good and destroying the evil, with a smile each day.”

Alka Mandave (Airport Police Station), Rashmi Jadhav (Cuffe Parade Police Station), Mrudula Lad (Sion Police Station), Lata Shirsat (Sahar Police Station), Jyotsna Rasam (Vanrai Police Station), Rohini Kale (Pantnagar Police Station), Vidhyalaxmi Hiremath (Aarey Police Station) and Kalpana Gadekar (BKC Police Station) are the capable ladies tasked with keeping Maximum City safe. This isn’t just a step towards better representation of women and their rights, but also a long overdue move in the direction of workplace equality.

In a TV interview, Rashmi Jadhav, in-charge of the Cuffe Parade police station, said that seeing a women in charge will make it easier for women and young girls to report crimes against them.

We hope that it will not only help give women a voice, but also encourage many young girls to realise their dreams and career opportunities.
