The ongoing Venice Film Festival has been in the news for several reasons. Timothee Chalamet’s red, backless number, Florence Pugh strutting with an Aperol spritz, Brendan Fraser getting all teary-eyed after receiving a standing ovation for his film The Whale–cinema is certainly having a moment here. But if there’s anything that tops it all, it’s the recent speculation around whether Harry Styles spat on Chris Pine or not. Who knew we would be talking about something so bizarre? But oh well, here we are.
The Harry Styles-Chris Pine incident has set the internet ablaze since a video of the duo from the event went viral. In the video, Harry Styles appears to have spat on Chris Pine just before taking a seat beside him at the premiere of their film, Don’t Worry Darling. Although Chris didn’t say anything to Harry at that moment, his expression said it all.
At his recent concert in New York City, Styles finally addressed the speculation and denied he spat on his co-star in a rather witty and hilarious way. “This is our 10th show at Madison Square Garden, it is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful to be back here. I just popped over to Venice to spit on Chris Pine but fear not, we’re back,” the singer says.
There has been no direct statement from Chris Pine but his representative denied the incident too. “This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation. Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist,” he said in a statement.
The Chris and Harry spat isn’t the only drama surrounding the film. A lot has been said about the ongoing feud between the film’s female lead Florence Pugh and director Olivia Wilde after the former skipped the film’s press conference ahead of the red carpet. Although it is reportedly said that Pugh’s grievances started with Wilde on set while filming, the true reason is still unknown. The latest update is that Pugh and Pine have opted out of the Don’t Worry Darling Q&A event in New York City.
That’s all that we know, for now, folks. We’ll give you an update on the next episode when we hear more. But for now, let’s move on with our lives and find another meme to laugh about.
