Capella by Shantnu and Nikhil was a starry vision on the FDCI x LFW Runway

This year was no exception to the spectacular celebration of Fashion at FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. A tone was set for the future of trends on the star-studded runway with a line-up featuring some of the best works of the nation’s favorite designers. This second chapter of LFW brought in a ton of glitz and glamour, but what literally shone like a star was the majestic bridal couture collection – ‘Capella’ by Shantnu and Nikhil. Titled after the brightest shining star, this collection lived up to its name and how!

Known for their unorthodox approach to traditional couture and re-inventing classics, we’ve seen Shantnu and Nikhil create magic on runways before with their exemplary creations. But Capella is in a class of its own bringing back the magnificence of the Baroque Era and the grandiose of its artefacts – The chandeliers.

We’re still picking up our jaws after being struck by the stunning showstopper entry by none other than a star herself – Kriti Sanon. She owned the runway looking like a queen in the iconic Shantnu and Nikhil mint-julep lehenga adorned with pristine stones and muted bullion threadwork. Imagine the Palace of Versailles in all its glory, that was the vision that inspired the design, with the prismatic crystals and chandelier-like chains Kriti dazzled the show looking nothing short of regal.

Capella pays homage to the beauty of a Baroque palace featuring intricate embroideries of motifs and vintage art, pristine embellishments on a thematic palette of off-white, mint-gold and charcoal. You can see how gorgeously the tiers were accentuated by tulle and veils that brought forth a sensuous lavish quality of that era. This collection re-writes the fashion rules with its ‘More is More’ approach weaving the old-world charm with the new-world aura and sensibilities for today’s bride.

Speaking about the collection, the designer duo said “We have always been enthralled by the history and the grandeur it holds. Our work has always demonstrated a passion for reawakening nostalgia and presenting abandoned stories. It wasn’t unexpected that we were seeking a fresh outlet after over two decades of designing haute couture: A Shantnu & Nikhil bride who redefines bridal couture through the lens of historical abundance! Capella, named for the star in the sky that shines the brightest, accomplishes just that!”

Crafted with unique detailing and compelling artwork, Capella is redefining conventional bridal couture through the prism of classical Baroque opulence. Every single outfit in this collection celebrates the femininity and strength of the new-age bride who deserves to shine like a star on her big day.
