Once winter comes, can glitter be far behind? With no worries about melting foundations and humidity-stricken frizzy hair, the drop in temperature gives us a larger bandwidth to play with colours and textures, and rise above the ordinary. Celebrate your individual style as you step out to celebrate the festivities in person this year. We caught up with celebrity beauty experts to forecast the trends for the festive and wedding season ‘22.
Embrace Glitter
Glitter is big this season, says Sonic Sarwate, Global Senior Artist, M.A.C Cosmetics. Take your pick from champagne to subtle pink hues or opt for jewel and metallic tones. Using a mix of coloured glitters can add more dimension and drama to the eyes,” says Sarwate. He further adds that for weddings, gold and champagne are the most flattering hues for Indian skin tones. For occasions where you want to show that you have made an effort to dress up, opt for glittering eyeshadows in jewel tones. Pro tip: Conceal your dark eye circles for the colours to pop out. “For eyes, choose a colour that matches the embroidery of the outfit. It also adds extra bling,” advises Sarwate. Don’t shy away from highlighters; if there is any time when you can pass off blinding shine as a trend, it’s right now! Sarwate recommends layering different highlighters and finishing the make-up with a setting spray for a flawless finish.
Go For Big, Blue Eyes
According to the celebrity makeup artist, Bianca Louzado, it’s the season for midnight blues and teals. “Make-up colours used in the last two years were mostly nudes, peachy and in tones of baby pink as the vibe was subdued during the pandemic,” she says. Now when we are finally stepping out to celebrate, people aren’t shy of trying bold and saturated colours.
Dewy Skin Is In
Nothing spells glamour more than skin that looks hydrated and smooth, especially during the winter when it gets drier and dehydrated. While we trust you to do the basics of drinking water, exercising and resting adequately, you must prep and prime the skin before make-up application. “Use products that not just moisturise but also illuminate the skin, like a strobe cream. “Strobe cream and cream blushes are must-haves this festive season for effortlessly dewy skin,” recommends Sarwate.
Watch Out For Demi-Matte
While dewy skin is here to stay, it’s not easy to achieve. Sometimes the pursuit of dewiness can lead you to an unflattering shiny zone. Demi-matte makeup, a hybrid between matte and glow, hits the sweet spot for those with oily or acne-prone skin and Louzado votes for this trend. “There are an equal number of people who have oily skin or acne-prone skin, and the understanding that dewy makeup doesn’t suit everyone has set in. This season, say yes to demi-matte,” she insists.
Of Nude Nails
Anything from champagne and gold to red and metallics are great options to give your nails a make-over for the celebrations this season. Remember, nothing is OTT! However, stick to nudes if you feel lost in a sea of choices. They complement a range of colours from pinks to whites and any silhouette from LBB to the most ornate embroidered outfits. Actor Sonakshi Sinha, who recently wore a co-founder’s hat with Soezi, a line of ready-to-use press-on nails, believes, “You can amp up the classic nudes with swirls, stones and ombres for the festive season.”
Get A Floral ‘MANE’ Fix Hair
Accessorising is key to being a head-turner this season. A simple and chic classic bun can be given a contemporary uplift with a few sprigs of fresh flowers. It works for weddings, whether you are a bride or a bridesmaid, and even for festive celebrations. “You can be creative with the choice and colours of flowers. Using different flowers and patterns to accessorise the hairstyle can elevate the hair game,” says Sarwate. Whether it is a cascading waterfall braid or a bohemian bun, pick from baby’s breath to roses to delicate wreaths to give a festive tweak to your hair look.
Don’t Ditch The Ponytails
Louzado recommends replicating Kendall Jenner’s top knot and Ariana Grande’s sleek ponytail hairstyle for Indian festive looks this season. “Bridesmaids are always on-duty. A ponytail hairstyle is best suited for them as it doesn’t let the hair get into your face while dancing and keeps it away from sticking to the glossy lips,” she explains. It doesn’t have to be boring or sleek; twist and tie beach waves, and accessorise with pearls. Simple!
Flaunt Glass Hair
If you are attending an event as a guest, keep the hair look sleek and classy. “Glass hair might sound simple but straight and shiny hair looks (extremely) chic,” says Louzado. Don’t forget to add a shine spray to seal the look.
