Milan, London, Paris you name it – streets were crammed and show venues packed, in the last 2 weeks courtesy the spring summer 2024 edition of the men’s fashion week. Biggies like Prada, Dior and Louis Vuitton made their mark known through their meticulously designed collections whereas the star studded front rows were particularly talked about, because let’s face it, celeb power has always crunched in the numbers with placid ease.
Be it Homme Plissé by Issey Miyake’s live dressing on the runway or Pharrell’s debut bout for LV, here’s a look at what went down at the recently concluded men’s fashion week.
Pharrell’s Debut For LV
Pharrell’s much-anticipated debut for Louis Vuitton at the men’s fashion week was an amalgamation of music, fashion and art culminated into a standalone event watched across the world. With a live choir and rapper Jay Z performing post the showcase to Queen B, Kim Kardashian and Zendaya gracing the front row, the sporty, athleisure doused collection will go down as an iconic one for the house.
Loewe’s Star Studded Front Row
Featuring the crème de la crème of The White Lotus cast including the likes of Theo James and Murray Bartlett, alongside cousin Greg aka Nicholas Braun and Brian Cox from Succession, the HBO tribe reigned superior at the Loewe front row at this men’s fashion week. On the collection front – Jonathan Anderson knocked it out of the park with the glitter heavy, fluid lineup.
Homme Plissé by Issey Miyake’s Runway Spectacle
The Issey Miyake live presentation at Homme Plissé had fabric rolls being unravelled and set out to reveal the clothing inside, and it was impressive enough to be termed a technological marvel. The components were then put on the models mid-runway, and they continued in the presentation afterward. Team Miyake has consistently emphasised the importance of humanising their presentation through thought-provoking storytelling, and this just proves their mettle in the arena.
Dior’s Stage Elevation
Marking 5 years of Kim Jones’ tenure at Dior, the maison’s presentation at men’s fashion week featured an interesting ramp and lighting play that synced perfectly in tandem with the otherwise colour filled collection. Thai stars Mile and Apo alongside Gossip Girl spinoff alumni Thomas Doherty were in attendance to reiterate the power of stardom.
Jiawei Han’s Cigarette Butt Suit
One of the most viral moments from this edition of men’s fashion week has to be the ‘Cigarette Coat’ by Institut Français de la Mode alumni Jiawei Han. Made out of thousands of cigarette butts, this oversized sculptured ensemble alongside their naked ‘Muscle Suit’ propelled majority of the attention on this newly graduated, Covid batch design genius.
