Halloween has always evoked a weird kind of nostalgia for me. Maybe it’s because I love makeup, maybe it’s because I love sweets, or maybe it’s just because I have an embarrassing amount of love for all things Harry Potter. As a child living in India who grew up watching American television, I always remember Halloween being so out of reach for me. I would eagerly wait for the annual Halloween edition episodes of shows like The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody and Hannah Montana where costumes and trick-or-treating were just casual Halloween activities that occurred every year. Then there are movies like Mean Girls where Halloween is a good excuse for teenagers to act like…teenagers. But now as an adult, my favourite interpretation of Halloween is how it pays an homage to pop culture. This homage manifests in the most beautifully nostalgic way when celebrities don outfits that reference movies, music, cultural movements, and even historical figures, making a statement that resonates with chronically online pop-culture nerds (like me).
Halloween was extraordinary this year. Celebrities were not lazy and fully understood the assignment. Ahead, we list down our favourite Halloween costumes of 2024.
