With People Going All Out Booking Tickets For Concerts, Music Tourism Is Emerging As The New Travel Trend

2024 has been a year for music lovers with so many artists going on tour and holding their concerts. This really has been the time when all the artists got back to the spotlight and we are so here for it. Whether it’s Taylor Swift’s Eras tour or Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour, which is now coming to India, fans are going above and beyond to watch their favourite artists live.

Gone are the days when concerts were just about showing up, singing along, and going home. Today, they’re all about the experience: the travel, Instagram stories, outfit coordination, and people getting proposed to Love Story live. Concerts are an emotion and artists know it. In fact, it’s giving rise to music tourism, and honestly, it feels like more than just a trend. Is this the new way to travel?

The Global Scene

The entire year was filled with so many people travelling overseas to attend the Eras Tour by Miss Swift. Indian swifties made sure they went the Long Live way and had the time of their life. Countless people travelled to Europe, Singapore and the USA for her concert while exploring the cities – sounds like a fairytale and I am so jealous that I was not one of them! Who doesn’t want to experience the performance of a lifetime while getting to tick that dream destination off the list? Although her tour is ending, I cannot stop manifesting her performance in India (excuse me, you were supposed to move to India forever).

Similarly, global music festivals like Coachella, Tomorrowland or even Magnetic Fields in Jaipur have had people hooked. Clearly, it is not just about enjoying global music but the culture, fashion, art, the thrill of travelling and everything that comes with it. The Indian music scene is bringing in people and artists from around the world.

Indians Are All In

Indians are welcoming this wave with open hands – no life jackets, ready to dive in, explore and experience, which is boosting India’s music scene and giving leading artists more meaningful stages to perform.

With artists like Diljit Dosanjh and Hanumankind performing on international stages and playing at sold-out stadiums, we could not be more proud of this wave (although, can I please get to book Diljit tickets, Zomato?). At the same time, we have the biggest global artists like Dua Lipa, Coldplay, Cigarettes After Sex, and Maroon 5 coming to India with standalone shows and then there’s Lollapalooza India bringing in Shawn Mendes, Green Day and Glass Animals, among others. Concerts are being appreciated in a newer sense and we are all here for it.

Concerts? More Like A Vacation

We all know the great lore of concert tickets being sold out on Book My Show in minutes, and tickets selling for three times the original price literally everywhere else, so it’s safe to say the hype is real. With Coldplay being sold out in Mumbai, so many people booked their tickets for the Abu Dhabi show, because why not? You get Coldplay and the desserts to explore – sounds like a clear yes to me.

Music tourism isn’t just about collecting stories to tell your friends later (although, let’s be honest, that’s a big part of it), it’s also about giving cities a new identity, boosting local economies, and creating meaningful stages for artists to shine. Suddenly, places you might not have considered visiting are becoming hotspots because, hey, your favourite artist is performing there!

Whether it’s Ahmedabad or Abu Dhabi, fans are showing up for their favourite artists, proving that music is the ultimate reason to travel. Anything to be out there singing Yellow with our lovers, girlfriends or strangers turned besties is wholesome.

Shuffling Playlists & Passports

This shift is redefining what it means to attend a live performance. It’s not just about the music anymore—it’s about the entire vibe, from the destination to the people you meet along the way.

If there’s one thing Gen Z knows, it’s starting their planning way ahead. Even before the first paycheck clears, we know the event we are going to and are already on our way to book the tickets for the concert, and of course, the hotel and flights.

For us, concerts aren’t just events; they’re curated experiences complete with travel itineraries, matching outfits, and viral Instagram posts, which we think is the right way to do it. So forget Paris, but meet me at a concert anywhere in the world to sing your lungs out.
