You may have a hard time recalling the last movie you’d have seen with Twinkle Khanna in a lead role, but when we think of some of the best writers in the country right now, Khanna’s name is sure to crop up. In the same vein, Victoria Beckham first shot to fame as a member of nineties British pop group Spice Girls, but it’s her eponymous fashion label that’s made her one of the most successful businesswomen in fashion.
Take a look at these talented celebrities who’ve proved they’re no one-trick ponies.
Twinkle Khanna, columnist/author
After retiring from her largely forgettable Bollywood career, Twinkle Khanna ventured into interior designing and is now the co-founder of ‘The White Window’, an interior designing store. But what catapulted her to nationwide popularity were her columns for Times of India and DNA, lauded for being incisive, funny and filled with a brand of wit we’ve now come to associate with her. Her best-selling novel, Mrs. Funnybones, made her the highest selling female writer of 2015, an act she hopes to repeat with the recently launched The Legend of Laxmi Prasad.
Jessica Alba, entrepreneur
Fantastic Four star Jessica Alba was always considered to be a pretty face rather than a talented actor. But we’re pretty sure nobody gave her credit for being an equally savvy businesswoman — until she co-founded ‘The Honest Company’ in 2012. Alba’s brand manufactures non-toxic household products and supports ethical consumerism, valued at $1.7 billion in 2015. Forbes pitted against other successful self-made celebrities like Oprah and Madonna. Though these celebrities gained success in their own fields, Alba has managed to do it in a completely unrelated industry.
Victoria Beckham, fashion designer
Posh Spice was the least impressive Spice Girl, but Victoria Beckham’s fashion career has turned her into one of the most sought-after designers in the business. Beckham launched her label in 2008, and it immediately became a red carpet favourite with fans including Beyoncé, Anna Kendrick, Kate Winslet, January Jones and Sienna Miller to name a few.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, fashion designers
The Olsen twins began their careers in TV, jointly playing the role of Michelle Tanner in Full House. Unlike most child stars of their vintage, the duo abandoned the movie business in their teens for in favour of a career in fashion. They launched two wildly successful fashion labels — The Row and Elizabeth and James — becoming synonymous with impeccable tailoring and high quality fabrics.
Chrissy Teigen, model/cook/writer
Aside from being one of the funniest celebrities on Twitter, Chrissy Teigen has been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 2010 and cemented her reputation as a model to look out for. But her stint on Cooking Channel’s special in 2013 revealed her culinary chops to the world,, earning her a book deal (Cravings) and a slot on the New York Times’ best-sellers list.
