ELLE 5ves: Lip Oils That Are Worth Every Penny

We’ve all been there—our teenage selves obsessed with lip gloss, slathering it on like it was the answer to all our problems. Shiny? Sure. Sticky? Oh god, yes. Every gust of wind sent your hair straight into that sticky mess. But the sparkle, the gloss? Absolute perfection. But since lip oils have gone viral we haven’t looked back. They give you that radiant sheen we all secretly crave but without the hair-catching, lip-sticking nightmare. And they don’t just make your lips look good; they actually nourish them. I don’t know about you, but I’m always on the hunt for a product that does a bit more than just look pretty. Let me walk you through five lip oils that, in my humble opinion, are worth every penny. I’ve tried them all (obviously), and these are the ones that made me wonder how I ever lived without them.

1. e.l.f. Cosmetics Glow Reviver Lip Oil

I’ve always had a soft spot for e.l.f. Cosmetics. They’re like that one friend who’s always there for you with an affordable treat when you’re skint. For a brand that’s known for budget beauty, this lip oil genuinely feels like something a bit posher. The texture is smooth, almost buttery, but without being greasy. It just glides on and gives your lips this subtle wash of hydration and colour. The shades are wearable, perfect for when you want that ‘I woke up like this’ look. It’s not going to give you that full-on ‘Instagram pout’, but it’s more of an everyday hero. The kind you can toss in your bag and swipe on without needing a mirror. Casual yet effective, like wearing a good pair of jeans.

The Fat Oil Lip Drip had me at “Fat Oil”. I expected thickness, I expected shine—and I got it. The applicator is chunky and fabulous. It gives off that wet, high-shine gloss vibe without the stickiness that we’ve all been haunted by in the past. The shades are cute and not so in-your-face that you feel overdone for a mid-morning coffee. And for all that goodness, the price is still very NYX, completely doable.

3. The Skin Diet Company Lip Barrier Oil

The Lip Barrier Oil delivered on all fronts. This one is for the skincare nerds, the ones who want their lips to be genuinely looked after, not just glossed over (pun fully intended). This oil feels light but deeply nourishing, thanks to jojoba oil, vitamin E. It’s like wearing a lip treatment disguised as a beauty product. What I love most is that it has a nice glossy finish and can be worn on or with your favourite lip colour. I’m the kind of person who slathers this on before bed and wakes up with lips that feel like they’ve been reborn. Dramatic? Maybe. But if you suffer from dry lips (especially in winter), this one’s a no-brainer. It’s functional, and I like that.

The name Love Potion pretty much sums this one up. It’s romantic, it’s cheeky, and it’s just plain fun. If a lip oil could flirt, this would be it. The formula is hydrating and glossy, but what really gets me is how it makes my lips look instantly more plump and lush. This one’s smooth, glowy, and very wearable. The colour is subtle, but it gives your lips that juicy look and the packaging is super cute.

I’m all for a multitasking product. Less faff, more efficiency. This lip oil adapts to your skin’s pH, giving you a custom tint every time you swipe it on. Yes, please. It’s lightweight, hydrating, and works just as well on your cheeks as it does on your lips. I love it for those days when I’m feeling a bit lazy but still want to look put together. Dab, dab, swipe—done.

These lip oils are glossy, and hydrating, and they’re the grown-up answer to lip gloss without the mess. If you’ve not jumped on the lip oil train yet, now’s the time.
