Taylor Swift, aka The Music Industry, has a song for every situation. You can always find a lyric from her award-winning discography that will undoubtedly capture your current mood, whether it be a little sadness, a sense of empowerment, or outright revenge. Taylor Swift made a triumphant return to the pop scene this fall with the release of her tenth studio album, Midnights. For the past few years, the singer-songwriter has continuously reinvented her image through carefully chosen fashion choices and musical genres. The pop icon took a straight jump from cottage-core grandma cardigans to sassy, sultry, sparkly sequinned dresses.
Her statement made perfect sense because her bejewelled outfit at the 2022 VMAs was a direct nod to her Midnight aesthetic. Honestly, her fashion stylist, Joseph Cassell, deserves a raise for creating these impeccable looks. In addition to being a stylist, Joseph is also a designer. Taylor says “Joseph still gets as excited when an outfit comes together or when he finds someone new to do custom performance costumes as I do when I finish writing a new song.”
So, while you are jamming to her songs, here is a thorough breakdown of our favourite outfits she has worn so far during the “Midnights” era:
Shimmering Shinning
The Swifties weren’t ready for this, nor were the VMAs. Taylor Swift stunned in an Oscar de la Renta dress that was covered in shimmering crystals all over, making it an exceptionally sparkling choice of attire. Swift delivered on the promised couture moment as she announced her newly released album, Midnight. She wore Lorraine Schwartz diamond drop earrings and rings, along with Christian Louboutin heels with a chandelier-inspired design. The look was then topped with her classic red lip and a low bun.
Folklore Stars?
After creating all the chaos on stan Twitter with her album announcement, Taylor appeared in a navy slip dress by Moschino with dazzling stars on it, giving hints of the song Midnight Rain from the latest album and a past glimpse of Folklore merch. She accented the look with a fluffy white wrap, silver platform heels, and down-swept waves in her blonde hair.
Glitzy Gold
Her grandmother’s era has finally come to an end. During her Toronto Film Festival appearance, the songwriter had a major gilded moment in a gold Louis Vuitton gown with jewels, which hinted at her song Bejeweled.
Black Space?
The singer made a more sensual selection this time. Swift looked stunning in a black figure-hugging sequin gown by Michael Kors at the Nashville Songwriter Awards. One sleeve, a high slit, and an asymmetrical hip cutout gave major Reputation vibes with killer heels by Aquazzura. The look was on point with the smoky eye and red lips that we like.
Daring Jewels
And by the way, she’s going out tonight. Taylor Swift’s outfit for the 2022 MTV EMAs, a black bodysuit-style David Koma dress paired with a translucent, dazzling cage skirt and finished with emerald-coloured diamonds is a fan favourite. The plunging neck-lined dress was styled with a variety of gems by Anita Ko, Delfina Delettrez, Repossi, and Djula, including a smattering of diamond ear cuffs and many blinged-out rings. The green gemstones also obliquely alluded to her Reputation re-recordings.
Dressed To Match Her Trophies
After accepting awards on stage in the bold first look, Taylor changed into a glitzy David Koma dress, with a collared short-sleeve. The silver sequins of Swift’s new outfit adorned her four trophies as she posed backstage holding them. A queen’s move, we must say!
More Gold? Yes Please
The pop icon entered the stage wearing a skimpy outfit adorned in crystals from The Blonds to receive her Favorite Pop Album award for “Red (Taylor’s Version). She added her trademark red lipstick to her AMAs ensemble to enhance the look. This major 70’s disco vibes of the outfit were maintained by keeping her hair in loose, flowing curls. Can we give the stylist an AMA as well?
