Here’s Why The Valentino Hot Pink Is More Popular Than The Pantone Colour Of the Year Itself

For the Valentino Autumn/Winter 22 collection, Pierpaolo Piccioli showcased 40 different silhouettes, all in one shade—hot pink. His idea was to shift the focus on the details of each garment—shape, style, neckline and surface ornamentation. But why pink? it’s a colour long associated with everything feminine, which is exactly the trope Pierpaolo intended to subvert. Throughout his presentation, both men, women and even the backdrop matched the power pink parade. So much so that, Pierpaolo’s pink has been added to Pantone’s official colour range under the name of ‘Pink PP’.

During Valentino Garvani’s illustrious era, red was the signature colour of the couture house for the longest time. While its historical association with red remains intact, Pierpaolo has managed to introduce a new trademark colour in the Valentino vocabulary. Tapping into the world of millennials, his choice of colour caters to the fashion aficionados but also fascinates the feminists as he has taken a stereotypical womanly shade and has turned it into a political statement of beauty.

Ever since the collection hit the runway, Valentino loyalists a.k.a your favourite celebrities have been sporting this hue at various events. From Zendaya debuting the colour of the season at the show itself to Gigi Hadid and Glenn Close attending various New York Gala’s in them—and not to forget, the leading men of the industry have been repping it too.

1. Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadid recently arrived in a head-to-toe pink Valentino for the Prince’s Trust Gala. The Discobox platforms matched perfectly with her mini dress and bag, punctuated with her platinum blonde her—giving her the Malibu Barbie look she was going for.

2. Glenn Close

Glenn Close served icon energy at this year’s Met Gala, as she walked the steps with Pierpaolo Piccioli in his hot pink, Gilded Glamour inspired creation.

3. Sebastian Stan

Not too far back was our very own Winter Soldier, looking all Ken-doll-like in all Valentino pink oversized attire.

4. Simone Ashley

Bridgeton girl Simone Ashley is the star of the moment and she knows that all eyes are on her. Making most of the limelight, Simone walked the red carpet in a sheer cape and pants, working the Valentino highlighter pink hue.

5. Zendaya

Considering her longstanding association with Valentino, Zendaya was one of the first celebrities to debut the Valentino hot pink number at their own show. The Euphoria star opted for an anti-fit suit, as she sat front row for the AW2022 presentation.

6. Nichola Peltz Beckham

Newlywed actor Nichola Peltz Beckham made her first post-wedding appearance at the Met in hot pink, flowing Valentino gown with a décolletage detail.

7. Billy Porter

You know it’s a hot trend when it has Billy Porter’s seal of approval. The actor wore ruffled Valentino pink couture to the Grammy and contrasted it with a deep purple lip.

8. Tracee Ellis Ross

Even before Pierpaolo Piccioli designed an entire collection based on this colour palette, Tracee Ellis Rose played a Valentino muse in this puffy hot pink gown for the 2018 Emmy, attesting to her ahead of times sense of style.
