I’m not the one to fangirl over anyone but when it comes to Taylor Swift, all hell breaks loose. That’s the hold she has over her Swifties. Now, I can’t promise that I won’t go on a 10,000-word geek-out about Taylor Swift, but here are 10 times her hair, makeup and nails have inspired many like me.
Red Lips
When Taylor Swift sang “I got that red lip classic thing that you like”, she wasn’t kidding–we love it! Her love affair with this bright scarlet is so iconic that she even named an album after it. In an interview in 2015, Taylor credited the MAC Cosmetics Retro Matte Lipstick in the shade Ruby Woo as her staple red shade. Looking to give these red lips a try?
Messy Updo
Not that we needed reasons other than her lyrics and love for cats to relate to her, but her messy updo just got added to the list. The updo seems easy to do–she even manages to make a messy yet elegant chignon look glamorous. By adding a few intricate details like braids or hair jewellery to a messy updo, you can too imitate her effortless glam.
Smokey Eyeliner
How can we talk about Taylor Swift’s makeup looks and not talk about her cat eyeliner? After all, it was her who sang “Draw the cat eye, sharp enough to kill a man”. Although the classic wing makes a cameo in many of her makeup looks, this bold smokey eyeliner look rightfully amps up the drama. If you’re looking for an impactful eye look, try pulling a reverse eyeliner by applying the eyeliner on your lower lash line instead of the top.
Fearless Waves
She’s a country girl by heart and her hair looks between 2008 to 2011 are testimony to that. Right from her first public appearance, these big beautiful curls have been the desire of everyone who looks up to her. And with the curly girl method still making the rounds on the internet, it’s safe to say that luscious curls, whether coily or wavy, haven’t gone out of style. The trick is to figure out your curl pattern, maintain moisture levels and keep them from falling flat.
Bold Lips
Seeing their most beloved country girl in a grunge look was quite surprising for the internet. But although she received quite some hate for her custom Louis Vuitton silver snakeskin dress and tie-up heels, she managed to do a few things right in terms of hair and makeup. Her classic red lip was replaced by a vampy damson, and her bleach-blonde mop sure did direct attention to these edgy lips. If you’re on the lookout for a similar sultry shade, I suggest giving the Huda Beauty Power Bullet Matte Lipstick in the shade Masquerade a try!
Side Swept Bangs
Straight off of the sets of Great Gatsby is where one might think Taylor is coming from when looking at her side-swept bangs, and I’m convinced that no one does bangs quite like Taylor Swift. Her asymmetrical bob at the Met Gala in 2014 was in correlation to her ‘Blank Space‘ music video release. Watch the video here to see the many ways she styled this classic hairstyle.
Head Jewellery
I remember being 10 when the ‘Love Story‘ music video dropped, and along with that began my hunt for bejewelled headbands. Right from the initial years of her public appearances, Taylor has remained faithful to wearing gemstones, bows and bright colours and flowers on her hair. She was spotted at the TIME 100 Gala in a soft pink and yellow gown and a floral bejewelled hairband.
Short Bob
Swift made heads turn when she appeared with her Anna Wintour-esque short bob at the Grammies in 2016. Her cool-toned blonde paired perfectly with her blue eyes and iconic red lips. This chin-length, curved inwards hairstyle makes for a great choice if you want to slim and elongate your face.
Bejewelled Eyes
The Euphoria craze took over the beauty industry with bejewelled eyes and glitter makeup. But Taylor Swift started the trend with the release of her ‘Teardrops On My Guitar‘ music video in 2006. From the glitter heart around her eyes on the ‘Lover‘ album cover to her VMA 2022 red carpet look, Taylor Swift definitely knows how to make the whole place shimmer!
The Modern Shag
Taylor has been in her 70’s shag hairstyle and blunt bangs era for quite some time now and we don’t blame her. This effortless hairstyle manages to do all the right things–frame the face, add movement with layers and give volume. She also recently went from a butter blonde/ bleached phase to a much cooler mane that in my opinion, compliments her blue eyes perfectly.
Eras Era Nails
Swifties are always looking for Easter eggs in everything Taylor Swift does–from the number 13 and the casual appearance of snakes in her music videos to her Instagram posts and now even her manicure. To kick-start her most anticipated Eras tour with style, Swift paid homage to all her albums on her nails. While the manicure was left short, it had the Skittle nails trend putting it up on the cuteness scale. Although we’ll leave the rest for you to decode, she sported a bright pink nail for ‘Lover‘, a gold nail for ‘Fearless‘ and a red nail of course for ‘Red‘.
