There’s no denying that Samsung has a legacy of pushing the boundaries of what a smartphone can do, and the newly launched Galaxy S23 Ultra does just that. As a content creator for ELLE India’s social media, I’m always on the lookout for technological upgrades that can help me bring my creative vision to life—whether that’s a good camera, faster response speed or battery stamina. Happy to report that The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra checks the boxes.
The Design And Display
With sides which are now flatter than the S22 Ultra, the phone feels a lot more secure and comfortable in my hands than its curvier predecessor. Available in colours like phantom black, green, cream and lavender—there’s something to suit everyone’s taste. In addition, graphite, sky blue, lime and red are exclusively available on Samsung’s website. It’s stylish and simple while also making a luxe statement. Keeping the retired Galaxy Note’s essence alive, the S23 Ultra comes with an S Pen offering a fun way of taking quick notes. The 3,088 x 1,440-pixel QHD AMOLED display has a top 120Hz refresh rate. Expect brighter, crisper visuals with better white points and vivid colours that aren’t oversaturated, but rather balanced (much like the weight distribution of the phone).
The Galaxy S23 series is also UL ECOLOGO® certified, meaning that the product has been certified for reduced environmental impact.
The Camera
If you’re someone like me, whose first instinct when they see something pleasing to the eye is to pull out their phone and take a picture of it, you’re in for a treat with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The phone includes a front-facing 12-megapixel camera and four rear cameras including a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, 10-megapixel 3X telephoto, 10-megapixel 10X telephoto and a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera—sure to get you not just Instagrammble shots but frameable ones too.
What really caught my eye is its enhanced night shooting mode which captures more detail even in low-lighting conditions and the portrait mode which takes home the prize for subject isolation. What I’m not really a fan of is the 100x ‘space zoom’, which is surely impressive in ambition, but results in rather pixelated images.
The Performance
The phone comes with 8GB or 12GB of RAM paired with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and a terrific adaptive display which makes multitasking and shifting between apps a breeze while also not overheating the phone. Extra brownie points go to the battery performance which gives me a whole day’s worth of moderate use with about 15% still remaining and the impressive fast charging speed results in a fully charged Galaxy S23 Ultra in about an hour.
Final Thoughts
If you already have a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, shifting to this new model isn’t a required upgrade. But if you’re planning to move on from a different brand or older model and the hefty price point (that starts from ₹1,24,999) isn’t a dealbreaker, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is surely Samsung’s best Galaxy phone yet to get your hands on.
