The season’s first heatwave alert is here and sure you don’t want to hear us rant, but it’s too hot. Summers in this city are nothing like Pinterest boards promise us. We’re not waltzing around in our pretty summer dresses with glasses of Aperol Spritz in our hands instead we’re flailing our hands in the air trying to get rid of the sweat patches on our clothes. When we’re not doing that, we’re busy fanning our faces and pinning up our hair because the sweat won’t stop trickling down constantly. However, I firmly believe that even if we need to have our hair up, we have to look cute!
Summer beckons for all things easy, breezy and simple. A quintessential summer hairstyle is both practical and chic at the same time. The temperatures are only going to rise and just constantly twisting our hair into a bun, I mean where’s the fun in that! So, we’ve put together a few of our favourite hairstyles that are perfect for summer. From our saved folder to yours.—
Spiky Bun
One look at Ananya Panday’s Instagram feed will give you a glimpse into how much she adores her sleek looks. For me, the ideal summer hairstyle is a sleek bun., yes I know I said we can’t do buns every day, so start with just this one. A 90s favourite, this hairstyle is extremely easy to recreate and versatile enough for day, night, casual or formal!
Pouffed ponytail
Kriti Sanon usually favours sleek buns and with that bone structure, we understand why. However, this pouffe ponytail is a departure that we dig. The idea is to have some volume at the crown and also on the ends of your hair. This can be done by backcombing your tresses a little bit and spraying a texturing hairspray all over so your hair stays put all day.
Bowed Half-Ups

When we’re not obsessing over Rhode, we’re busy obsessing over Hailey Bieber’s hairstyles. This simple half-up hairstyle practically screams summer and is so easy to do, especially if you have short hair. With coquettecore taking over, using a cute bow to pin your hair up would add an element of freshness to your hairstyle.
Face-framing Updo
Princess Mia Thermopolis continues to inspire us even almost 18 years later. While I enjoy watching Anne Hathaway’s hair down, this stunning updo with face-framing bangs makes for a summer hairstyle I wouldn’t get tired of. A high top knot is breezy and prevents your hair from making you perspire even more. Since most of us have hopped on the bangs bandwagon, styling them towards the sides of your face would be a great look.
Voluminous Sleek Ponytail
I know, the two words voluminous and sleek don’t sit well together. But if there’s someone who can make that work, it’s Kim Kardashian. Sleek ponytails are the ultimate summer favourite, especially because our hair tends to get greasy almost every day. It’s low-maintenance, easy and ensures you’re looking polished. However, sometimes, sleek ponytails leave you looking flat and take away all of the dimension. The best way to combat this would be to tong the ends of your ponytail instead of leaving them straight.
Space Buns
I may not be the biggest fan of Ariana Grande’s dating choices, but I’ve got her latest We Can’t Be Friends on repeat. While the songstress is known for her iconic sleek ponytail, it was rather refreshing to see her ditch it for these adorable space buns. I get it, not everyone’s a fan of space buns but they’re an ideal summer hairstyle for when you want to add some excitement to your hair. With space buns, there’s plenty of room for exploration. You can opt for tight space buns for a structured look or you can choose to let some of your bangs loose for a breezy, face-framing effect.
