After the year’s hiatus, we once again celebrated and supported emerging homegrown talent at the Trell ELLE Fashion Gradutes 2021. This year Trell came on-board as the title sponsor, while popular label Crocs joined in as the footwear partner, and Istituto Marangoni as the associate sponsor.

As ELLE’s Fashion Editor, this was my first year being a part of this prestigious program and I am truly excited to be able to take you through the wild weekend that was Trell ELLE Graduates 2021.

Sitting with the team and pitching names and voting for the talent and people we believed in was almost a competitive activity, with the fashion team carefully looking through each brand’s story.

The Event

Taking this back to a full blown on-ground event wasn’t something that we were ready to revisit. So we decided to give you a fashion film, conceived and developed by teams across all platforms. The collaborative efforts and support of every working team is what made this happen.

Considering ELLE’s push for sustainability on every front, we created our set installments from waste newspapers and magazines, dried flowers and leaves. Trying to point out how nature and what we do with it can be repurposed and turned into something beautiful.

The first day felt like fashion week with models hustling between takes while the choreographer, Charmy Avlani Shah immaculately directed a film that we all fell in love with. Each designer winner had something unique to bring to the table.

Aseem Kapoor’s ever so chic Indian wear had heads turning all day with the girls in different tones of pastels. Aroka’s show at Trell Elle Graduates had modern yet feminine silhouettes that stood out in a crowd. Baka Jewellery had a message so strong that it couldn’t be ignored. Line Outline transformed what we imagine as typical menswear.

These key elements forced us to reimagine how we showcase designers and give them a foot up. The filming of these brands is an experience I will not forget.

We are so glad we were able to showcase these talents and personalities and bring them to your screens, even if we couldn’t bring you to them. Thank you all for your support and constant cheerleading. Here’s to next year and us all being able to celebrate together!
