Concepts like jet lag and bodily limitations apparently do not apply to Mary Kom. We’re convinced the boxer has superhuman powers — and not just when she’s in the ring knocking out opponents.
She has just returned from a tournament in Poland with a victory story of a different kind. Upon landing there, jet-lagged et al, she realised she had a predicament at hand. She needed to shed two kilos in roughly four hours, otherwise she would be disqualified from the match. “We landed in Poland at round 3-3:30 in the morning and the general weigh-in was at around 7:30am. I was a couple of kilograms above 48kg, the category I compete in, at that point,” she said.
To qualify for the 48 kg category, the Olympic medallist then focussed on losing the extra two kilos in four hours, which is definitely no mean feat! But Mary Kom is not the one to back down from a challenge. “I did skipping for an hour at a stretch and just like that, I was ready,” she said.

And ready she was. The mother-of-three picked up her third gold medal of the year at the tournament. Mary Kom has now trained her sights on 2020 Olympics is determined to fight till her body allows her.
