An exclusive first look at the Ritu Kumar x Lenzing Ecovero collection at Lakmé Fashion Week 2020

Every season, Lakmé Fashion Week dedicates a day to promote sustainable fashion. Among newbie designers are veteran designers who are steering their design practice towards more responsible choices, all the while taking the aesthetics a few notches higher. At the upcoming edition of Lakmé Fashion Week (February 12-16) in Mumbai, Padma Shri awardee Ritu Kumar, will collaborate with Austrian fibre brand, Lenzing Ecovero. The brand’s AW20 collection, Nature’s Origami, will hit the runway at the finale of the Sustainable Day of LFW 2020.

While Ritu Kumar has, since its inception, stressed on natural fibres and dyes through its collections, this collaboration will witness the design house translate its intricate Indian embroidery on sustainable viscose fibre, a patent of Lenzing Ecovero.

Ritu Kumar says, “Through this collection, our aim is to provide trend-setting styles made of sustainable viscose fiber; a shift to responsible fashion. The fashion industry is doing their bit to promote eco-friendly clothing and we believe that our creative outlook and Lenzing’s commitment would result in contributing to a healthier environment.”

Nature’s Origami revolves around the central theme of tribal and contemporary Indian art forms. The collection in inspired by four distinct inspirations—Mrinalini Mukherjee’s exhibit at the MET where modern chevron meets classic florals, laces and layering surfaces of neo origami, flora and fauna, and Sundervan. The colour palette that runs through the pieces is an amalgamation of vegetable dyes, an infusion of violets and leafy greens, alluding to nature and rejuvenation.

Avinash Mane, Commercial Head, South Asia, Lenzing Group says, “Our past associations at LFW have helped in building the narrative of sustainable fashion among designers and influencers in the fashion fraternity. We look forward to our association with Ritu Kumar this season. Through this collection, we hope to create a larger outreach among the industry on adopting alternative resources and processes in their brand.”
